But I think the biggest advantage is that it would be very very simple to adjust the interface to dial phonenumbers, type text messages, and so on. In other words: the iPhone would be within handreach, and it would not require dozens of buttons added to interface (eg via a dock connector like the FM radio) I believe this was planned for 2006

This is what I thought when I saw the report on the Apple patents for the different interfaces (number pad, 4-way "cross" control, iPod controls, etc.). What if those "alternative" controls were actually all "displayed" controls on a none-touch screen, and Apple is planning on making this device your iPod, your cell phone, and your gaming machine? Depending on what you select, the proper controls will appear.

We know Apple was looking to hire a game programmer for the iPod. We think Apple's working on a cell phone based on comments made at the last financials meeting. We saw the patents for the various control interfaces, coincidentally all being shown on the same form factor.

My concerns are cost(how in the world could Apple make such a device that's also affordable) and simplicity(most iPod reviewers seem to come to the conclusion that it's the iPod simplicity that's the key to its success). Adding all these features seems very un-Apple and could make the device rather confusing and cumbersome.

    Apple Television

    seriously doubt it.

Too big, too expensive, too many costs associate with transport/housing/shipping.
Saturate market with great quality products, fierce competition and very low profit margins.

In another words something Apple basically want to avoid.

If they didn't understand this on /., they're not going to understand this here, either.

    Radical thought.

Someone with a multiple CPU license simply ask Microsoft for a WRITTEN interpretation of the license.

OS X is great, but it isn't perfect.

Despite how depressing news or rumors related to security issues with OS X are I'm in agreement that attention to this issue is always a good thing. A little humility can go a long way.

    Hmmmm . . .

Should Google be more excited about how many copies of Android it has sold . . . .

Or Apple about how many copies of the iPhone it has sold ?

(little hint, Google isn't selling the Android OS)

Whlst Google doesn't sell Android OS, it does licence the closed source Google apps to third parties who want them. Without the google apps they wouldn't ship with Android Market, GMail, Google maps e.t.c. I'd assume they get a licensing fee for including the GApps.

    That looks hideous.

It was a mock up made based on a sketch given to them. It's not as if they had a CAD file to go from.

I don't think that enjoying the products is a bad thing at all. I think I provide a good analogy. I never head a non investing bragging about how much money the electric company makes or how happy they were that their health insurance company had a record year. I just find it strange.

Those are companies people don't get attached to. Apple and other tech companies are a much more personal choice, generally. It probably also helps because those people are excited that Apple is making more money, allowing them to deliver more new and innovative products then would be possible with lower cash flow.

EDIT: Also, it's not a good analogy. You are comparing two completely different types of companies and asking why people don't care about them on the same level.

Think of it this way: why do people care so much about their favorite hockey team winning? Can't they just be happy that they're playing? Of course not, the goal is to win.

That is unacceptable. But I'll also say that the problems experienced by people in NYC and SF have created a negative perception of AT&T that isn't accurate for most of the country. I've taken my iphone to a lot of places (to name a few: Orlando, DC, Indianapolis, New Hampshire, Maine, Houston) and had very good service (by which I mean as good as what my gf has had on her verizon phone) everywhere. I live in Boston, and the 3G speeds could be faster, but I do always have 3G and have very few dropped calls.

None of this is to suggest 30% dropped calls in a major city is Ok - it's clearly not, and if I lived in NYC or SF, I probably wouldn't have an iphone. But I wouldn't hesitate to recommend AT&T to people who lived in most other places.

Meh. It's an Apple. Really getting bored of the Apple look and iOS. To me they just look really cheap now. Already made my decision to get the Galaxy S2. Sorry but if Apple sticks with the 3.7inch screen, they're only gonna fall further back. Let's be honest, the iPhone isn't that great as a phone. It never was. Transmission, reception, and voice quality are poor to average. There's a reason why the iPhone 5 is being delayed. Apple took one look at the current competition and went back to the drawing bored. And that's fine. Any good company should do just that. I've never been a full on blind fanboy, hence my move to the GS2. At the same time, I don't want Apple turning into the next RIM. :o

I love tech that's on the bleeding edge. Right now for me, that's hardware. The tangible undisputed specs. And Samsung's high end GS2 oozes bleeding edge tech. The camera and 1080P video is ridiculously amazing. I'm not the emotional type that gets all caught up with the brainless "it just works" crowd. You know what?, they all "just work." If you don't know how to adapt to any OS, then maybe you just shouldn't even use any device at all. Seriously, they're all easy to use and get used to. Don't get me wrong, Apple to me is still a great brand, but for me the honeymoon is over so to speak.

Meh. It's an Android. The hardware works. The software, on the other hand, doesn't really. (Yet? Keep on waiting.)

And just for the argument's sake, you said you're sick of Apple and iOS look: At the first glance, the SSGSII hardware design don't look that different from the iPhone...

If u fancy tech then fine, it's your choice. I'm just saying. Cuz as far as my personal experiences with the Android OS go, I'm not happy with it.

I have a really strange problem changing the background wallpaper. Every time my computer goes to sleep the old background will be back again. However, this can be solved with a simple Shut Down before going to sleep.

I wonder how Thunderbolt will interact with the graphics card.

I expect that the video signals (DisplayPort) go from the graphics card back through the PCI bus to the TB chip and then out through the TB ports to the monitor. So when you upgrade the graphics card, it works (thinking of computers with replaceable PCI cards here, e.g. a Mac Pro with TB). But this will likely require the support of the graphics card manufacturers, so we have cards that are "compatible" with TB...?

Presumably one can still use the graphics cards' own video-out ports too.

    Guess we'll see.
well TB seems to be add on to DP port. So VIDEO may work with a added in card and a voodoo 1 like loop back cable. But you don't TB tied to on board video and what about AMD / sever / upper mid - high end intel boards / other boards that don't have chipset / cpu based video. Some sever boards have on board pci based video.

I like how the proximity sensor was casually cut off from the picture. I wonder if that iPhone has the "new" proximity sensor or the old one.

I bet if T-Mobile got the iPhone, they wouldn't need to sell the company since many people would go back to T-Mobile.

I agree... why would T-Mobile sell themselves to AT&T if they know they are going to get the iPhone!!!??? I sure as hell would switch to T-mobile if they came out with a T-Mobile version!

It's obvious that at this point in time sales of any one phone model is going to be quite a bit less than iPhone sales. Model for model, nothing is close.

Remember when tiered pricing was announced, Steve said more songs would be available for $.69 than $1.29...I have yet to see a $.69 song.

I've seen numerous $0.69 songs. If you're always looking at brand new stuff you may not see them.

AppleInsider has a series of photos of the Bluetooth Might Mouse

Unless I missed it.Looks like Apple will be selling an External Bluetooth USB adapter too.

I looked it up on Apple's store and couldn't find it..

    Does Apple make that ?
